Office Envy: Canvas Co/Work

Creative co-working spaces are becoming a staple of the D.C. innovation scene, but none are as easy on the eyes as Canvas. Opened in May 2012, Canvas Co/Work since moved to its current, beautiful 6,000 sq. ft. loft on 19th Street in March of this year. About 50 creative individuals and companies call it homebase, "from designers to developers to playwrights, and baristas," explained Community Manager Kallie Seniff.

While designing the exposed-brick location, they wanted to keep it as open as possible with no private offices and few doors. "Thats why we have a garage door for our conference room, so that it can be easily converted," Seniff said. Giving the space personality, though, didn't take much work as it already had plenty itself. "We wanted to keep things pretty simple, a lot of dark wood and black with pops of color, quirky prints on the walls to show our personality," she continued. "We were aiming to make it feel comfortable and not overly designed and done."

Well, consider it a job well done, because with conference tables that double as ping pong and pool tables and sleek, modern decorations, Canvas is a location that any creative type would want to be a part of.
