Cvent Moving Shop, Adding 400 Employees

After Virginia and Maryland battled it out to bring event-planning company Cvent to their states, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell announced today that the newly-public company will be moving to a new office in Fairfax County sometime in 2014. Specifically, the company with expand to an office in Tysons Corner in Greensboro Station, right off of the future Silver Line stop.

As part of that expansion, Cvent will also be adding on 400 employees to the already almost 500 in Virginia. Because of the economic pull of the jobs created, McDonnell also granted the company a $1 million award for moving to the new space, which formerly housed SAIC's global headquarters. That, along with the booming business hub that Tysons has become, is likely why Cvent chose its new home at 1710 Solutions Drive in Virginia. Cvent reportedly will also invest $7 million in the Greensboro Station location to expand its headquarters.

Though the move is a big one for Cvent, it's not a long one.

"We are excited to remain a Tysons-based company as we relocate to a new headquarters that can support our growth,” Reggie Aggarwal, CEO and founder of Cvent, said in a Fairfax County Economic Development Authority release. “We have called this town home for more than a decade because it offers a central location conducive to continued expansion, including access to the right talent, proximity to the region’s expanding tech sector, convenient transportation for our employees, and recreation and entertainment opportunities that make Fairfax County a great place to live and work.”

Topically, the news here is Cvent's expansion; but the larger theme is definitely the economic growth of Northern Virginia in the coming months. All of this was made possible because of the economic prosperity in Tysons and Virginia's dedication to maintaining that by bringing a metro extension there. Cvent – though it's already a Tysons company – will be just one of many companies that consider to expand and call Tysons, as well as other cities in that area, home, thanks to the Silver Line. The new metro line will open sometime early next year, and once it does, Cvent will make its move shortly after.
