Time to whip that elevator pitch into shape and gear up for what's sure to be yet another year of innovative startups proposals. The GW Business Plan Competition kicks off on Wednesday night, an opportunity for entrepreneurs with impressive visions to come forward and compete for $80,000 in cash prizes.
What started in 2009 as a way to allow for more of an entrepreneurial climate on campus has transformed into an annual, competitive contest chock full of advantageous opportunities for up-and-coming founders. Whether it be funding you're looking for or mentors to help you further develop your business to its full potential, the GW Business Plan Competition offers a vast array of possibilities for students, faculty, and alumni who are ready to enter into the startup world.
After last year's success ending with medical resident Adam Corman and Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine Neal Sikka taking home $25,000 for Sonostik, a venture that offers improved patient care using emergency ultrasound technology, there's no saying what the GW Business Plan Competition 2014 edition will bring. We'll get a sneak peek, though, come Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. when the contest officially kicks off.
If you attend on Wednesday you'll learn what it's like to participate in the competition through a game of Biz Bingo where you will "address a problem in need of solution, meet new people, discover teammates and potential partners for your startup" and "connect with fellow entrepreneurs, sponsors, judges, organizers, and previous winners," according to GW Today. It's a free event open to the public and all participants have the chance to win one awesome, fitting prize – The Startup Owner's Manual written by Steve Blank and Bob Dorf.
It will be an exciting day over at GW, a business plan competition kickoff unlike any other you've been to before. So if you have a passion for entrepreneurship, Zuckerberg-like talent, and enjoy a good networking session, then make sure to sign-up for the GW Business Plan Competition on Eventbrite here. See you there!
