myTaxi and Car2Go Join Forces and Offer Free Registration Promotion

For all you taxi-hailing-smartphone-app junkies, there’s good news.  Just last night, myTaxi and Car2Go sent out an email to members announcing that they're joining together "to make getting around town even easier." The announcement doesn’t come as a surprise after news of Daimler’s (founder of Car2Go) 15% stake purchase in myTaxi last month.

But there are much more important/awesome benefits to this partnership...FREE STUFF!

Within the announcement, the duo is offering free registration to members of of myTaxi to join Car2Go, waiving the normally $35 fee along with 30 minutes of free driving time. Car2Go typically charges $0.38 per minute and $13.99 plus tax per hour. You can sign up for this new promotion on their website by entering the promo code "mytaxi." In addition to the promotional offer, myTaxi will now be able to be accessed right from the Car2Go smartphone application. myTaxi is also offering a discount on their site for new Car2Go members who want to use their mobile app, offering $10 off any new rider's first trip when they use the promotion code "car2go" as a voucher on their app.

The two transportation services have grown popular in DC over the past few months with myTaxi's more competitive pricing over Uber for hailing cabs along with the ease of the credit card/PayPal payment and their official launch in Virginia, Arlington tomorrow. Combine that with Car2Go's ability to drive and drop off Smart Cars anywhere in the specified-District range for less than $1 a minute (unlike Zip Car), and you start to see the benefits of myTaxi and Car2Go working together.

Uber has also shown signs of competition, rolling out its own cheaper services such as its new taxi function (which apparently is only available in D.C.), as well as its new UberX feature which has grown wildly popular in other cities such as San Francisco.
