Marymount University Strives to Become the Next Big Player in the Entrepreneurial Realm

It's 2:00 am. You've been in the library all night and well into the wee morning hours frantically adjusting your resume to make yourself sound like the total package. As you scan through all of your stellar attributes and amazing work experiences you've listed, you begin to have that sinking realization that even though you were all about politics and international relations just a few years ago, you couldn't see yourself at all working in either of those fields today. And then…it hits. That gnawing feeling of uncertainty begins to climb up your throat, the panic begins to well inside you, and you find yourself at the crossroads many new graduates hit out of college: I don't have the same interests as I did when I first started school. So what do you do? You rely on the one thing you know best: yourself.

You trust yourself, you have a stake in your own livelihood, so why not take that next step and take the plunge, officially investing in your future, in yourself as an entrepreneur. It may be scary at first, definitely a gamble, but if you manage to foster the growth of a truly innovative idea and develop it into a well established business, you could find yourself striking gold. All you need is a little push, a self starter attitude, passion, and some support along the way, and you could be watching your dream become a reality.

Many universities have already jumped on the entrepreneurship bandwagon in order to further help students pursue the idea of starting their own businesses by equipping undergrads with the information and resources necessary to prepare them for the startup world. Georgetown, George Washington, George Mason, the University of Maryland are among those helping their students as they transition into the realm of entrepreneurship, but other D.C. area schools are also beginning to catch on to this growing trend. Most recently, that is Marymount University.

Marymount University is the newest addition to our lengthy list of local colleges that are stressing the need for forward-thinking leaders with innovative ideas. It may come as a surprise to you, but with Marymount and its Center for Career Services focusing increased attention on entrepreneurship, the university is aiming to become recognized as a big player in the in the entrepreneur game, and they are sure playing their cards right thus far.

Among those present will be four key players in the entrepreneurship world, all of whom have built up their businesses from the ground up right here in the District. They are established, amazing resources to tap into, ones that you can access on Tuesday night (to learn more about these talented folks, check out their bios below).
