Your Dreams of Becoming Ariel Can Now Come True: $250 Functional Mermaid Tails For Sale

You read the title and I captured your attention. I know, who can resist the urge to read more about mermaid tails? Believe me, I can't.

If you were a Disney movie fanatic like me growing up, then you spent about three hours every afternoon day dreaming about what it would be like to be a part of the magical world constructed by animation whizzes. You acted out various scenes, taking on the roles of characters like Snow White, Jasmine, or Belle. The impossibility of ever becoming the glorious princesses portrayed on the big screen never fazed me, I was going to be just like them. Prince charming would come to my doorstep, horse-drawn carriage waiting, and glass slipper in hand. My fantasies would become reality...someday.

At last, someday has come. Perhaps I will not have the chance to live out the life of Cinderella, but I now have the opportunity to swim swiftly through the ocean sea just like Ariel. I have yet to die my hair red, but I feel like that's the next step after I purchase the items that will secure my status as a true Disney star: A custom-made mono fin and functional mermaid tail.

I know what you're thinking, who on earth would buy something so ludicrous? Once I explain the back story, you'll understand.

Monika Naumann is a mother of three amazing young girls who are completely infatuated with everything and anything mermaid related. Their love for sea creatures far exceeded their mother's expectations when she came home one day to find them swimming in their pool in Surrey, Canada equipped with what looked like tails and flippers. Designing their very own Disney line of swimwear, Naumann's three daughters constructed their mermaid apparel out of their mother's own nylon pants.

As adorable of an attempt as it was, Naumann decided that she should take on the tailoring from then on. Naming her startup after her youngsters, 3-Fins is a company that creates "comfortable, durable and sturdy" custom-fit mermaid tails and mono-fins, reads the website. Featured on Etsy, the costume-esque outfit is made to swim in and is available in a variety of colors and texture. Naumann has made being a mermaid a reality.

Though a whopping $250, this purchase is well worth the money. What better way to get out of the D.C. heat than scour the Potomac with a sparkly blue tail in tow?
