ITC's Intern Pick of the Week: Tracy Bartley

Editor's Note: If you have an intern you think deserves to be nominated for ITC's Intern Pick of the Week, then email molly@inthecapital.com or DM her at @mollygreenberg.

Interns come and go, but if one stands out, then you make sure to hang on to them like your life depends on it. They are the diamonds in the rough, one of the most valuable members of your company. Though they may be looked at as temporary figures, their contribution to your business is one that cannot be replicated by any other college student, no matter how good their resume may appear. Here at ITC, we want to highlight the rarities, the interns you simply could not live without. Thus we bring you ITC's Intern Pick of the Week, Tracy Bartley.

Tracy Bartley is one of the most unique interns you will ever meet. Her background is extensive in academia with an undergrad career across the country at San Francisco State University majoring in International Relations to Webster University in Geneva, London, Vienna, Leiden (Netherlands) and Bangkok receiving her MA in International Relations. Not quite ready to give up the higher education life, Bartley is currently attending John Hopkins University in D.C. in order to acquire her MA in Economics. Her years in the education realm may seem impressive, but her passionate work for and with startups in New York City and Austin, Texas are what truly speak to her amazing work ethic. Classes at night and startup tasks during the day, Bartley is a force to be reckoned with. Holding an internship this summer with Gryphn Corporation, ITC has determined her our newest Intern Pick of the Week.

When did you acquire your first internship?

My very first intership was with ACCION USA in NYC. I stalked their community manager online.

What does your current internship entail?

They were offering four internships and ended up just taking me and tasking me with all of the above. Research, Social Media Manager, Blog writer and random task do-er.

What's the coolest part of your internship?

Learning the style of work that is expected. Navroop, CEO and co-founder of Gryphn, used to work for Accenture and Deloitte and I wanted to absorb that consultant type of work approach and methods.

Why did you choose your current internship?

Startup tech and social media - it's what I've been (inadvertently) doing for years.

How did you find your internship?

Mostly through random websites and stalking of specific companies in which I had interest.

What could you not live without at your internship? (tech, coffee, music, etc.)

I have a particular fondness for downtempo and chill - though occasionally I need some drum and bass to get me through a photoshop project. So music. My iphone. Headphones. Having a gym to go run in helps too.

How do you think your internship will help you after graduation?

It's rather ironic because I'm already graduated - I have an MA in International Relations. I just haven't learned my lesson from the last student loan beating I took and I'm getting another Masters in Economics. How will this internship help? I'm learning things, meeting people and hopefully landing a job with it. Hopefully here.

If you had to change one thing about how your university helped you with internships, what would it be?

University? Help? I've never had any assistance from a university in finding an internship. Or a job. Or anything for that matter - they're based in St Louis.
