Squadra Ventures, a Baltimore venture capital firm, is expanding its geographic footprint with a new office in D.C.

Guy Filippelli, founder and managing partner of Squadra, announced the expansion in a LinkedIn post. The firm makes early-stage investments in cybersecurity and national security startups and is looking to establish a foothold in Greater Washington.

Squadra closed on a $105 million fund last July and plans to invest between $2 million and $4 million each across about a dozen companies as part of this fund, the firm's second since its founding in 2019.

Filippelli could not immediately be reached for comment. The location of the office and other details are being kept under wraps for now.

"Be on the lookout for an invite to a summer rooftop party held at a yet-to-be-disclosed D.C. office building," he said in the LinkedIn post.

Being in D.C. will also position Squadra Ventures to grow its cyber and defense tech investment efforts. "Much more to follow on that," Filippelli teased in the post.

In February 2022, Squadra Ventures backed Arlington-based Shift 5 Inc. as part of the cyber defense startup's $50 million Series B funding round.

Squadra employs about a dozen people and features 15 startups on the portfolio section of its website as being among the young companies it has backed financially.
