Startup to Watch: Accompany Health

About the company: Accompany Health Inc. is a health care firm that is hoping to redefine the way care is provided to low-income patients with complex needs. Led by Dr. Rahul Rajkumar, Accompany provides not only medical care, but behavioral and social care at the residences of its patients. It opened the year with $56 million in Series A funding and it’s already putting that money to work. The company helps with the coordination of health care services via its proprietary management technology, connecting patients with primary care, behavioral health and social services providers, while addressing other issues than can affect health, such as access to grocery stores and transportation. It’s already live in Detroit and plans to expand to other markets. It has raised a total of $62 million in funding and has about 85 full-time staff. Like most health care providers, it is paid primarily by insurers.

Why we’re watching: Accompany Health is not just another health care provider as its unique approach to care includes at-home and virtual care as well as 24/7 support. Through virtual and in-person visits, Accompany Health is able to provide high-quality care to patients who might otherwise struggle to receive the care they need. The company is also eyeing an expansion that will allow it reach even more patients.
