Rebellion Defense, a D.C. tech startup that provides software used in defense and national security operations, has tapped its executive chairman as the company's new CEO.
Ben FitzGerald will take over the role on Jan. 1, the company said Monday. He replaces Barry Sowerwine, who has served as interim CEO since founder and CEO Chris Lynch stepped down in May. Sowerwine will join the board.
FitzGerald is a partner at Lupa Systems, which invested in Rebellion Defense in 2019. He has been executive chair since May. He also has served executive director for strategy, data and design in the Pentagon’s Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment.
Rebellion Defense said its revenue has grown 50% year over year. The company did not disclose specific figures.
Tony Ieradi was named chief operating officer in June, and the company tapped Jane Lee as chief government affairs officer and Karen Dacres as chief legal officer.
Tech titan Eric Schmidt was an early investor in Rebellion Defense. The company raised $150 million in 2021. Insight Partners and Venrock co-led the round, joined by Innovation Endeavors, Declaration Partners and Lupa Systems.
