D.C. customer retention company ChurnZero Inc. is doubling-down on its international business by opening a subsidiary headquarters in the Netherlands, it announced Monday.

The company will remain based in D.C. at 1100 15th St. NW while forming ChurnZero BV, which will lead up international business from its new Amsterdam office. The new location will be responsible for working with existing international clients as well as expanding its clientele across Europe.

ChurnZero sells software that helps companies "fight customer churn" by providing real-time information about how their products are used and how likely customers are to renew, tracking upcoming renewals and identifying risks, according to its website.

The company has raised $35 million in lifetime funding since its 2015 founding. It raised $25 million in March in a round led by growth equity firm JMI Equity, $7 million in 2019 and $2.5 million in 2017.

“Over the last few years, our customer base outside of North America has grown significantly,” You Mon Tsang, CEO and co-founder of ChurnZero, said in a statement. International customers have become a “key focus area” for the company, he said, leading it to search for an overseas office and ultimately settle on the Netherlands.

That new office means even more hiring for a company that’s been growing quickly; the firm said it is looking to hire “local talent” in roles that include customer success, implementation, customer support and sales. A portion of the $25 million raise was earmarked for increasing headcount. The company had 80 employees in March, up from 65 at the beginning of the year and around 30 in the spring of 2019. It now has 130, Tsang told the Washington Business Journal on Monday.

Tsang, a serial entrepreneur, is a former Washington Business Journal Diversity in Business Awards honoree.
