Smartronix acquires second Northern Virginia IT company in 5 months

Deal
Smartronix added another 50 employees with its latest acquisition.

Smartronix LLC has acquired its second Northern Virginia company in five months, a move that will help it gain business from U.S. intelligence agencies.

Smartronix, headquartered in Hollywood, Maryland, bought Herndon-based C2S Consulting Group. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition will add another 50 employees to Smartronix's fast-growing workforce, which increased to about 1,200 in January when the company bought Fairfax-based Datastrong.

Smartronix provides cloud, engineering and IT services to the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force and Treasury Department, as well as commercial clients like Allergan, Pepperidge Farm and Ancestry. C2S will become a part of Smartronix's cloud business unit and expand the company's client base into the U.S. intelligence community and Department of Homeland Security, while also broadening its base within the Department of Defense and other agencies.

C2S CEO Brandee Daly will join the Smartronix executive leadership team as an executive vice president and report to CEO Peter LaMontagne. In the role, he will focus on strategic client and cloud growth initiatives. C2S Chief Operating Officer Kevin Smith will report to Sankovich and lead a newly formed division within the cloud solutions business unit that will oversee all Department of Defense and intelligence community clients and operations.

"The addition of top talent from C2S and that of recently acquired Datastrong, combined with our in-house expertise, truly advances our vision to empower clients with innovative cloud solutions and data intelligence to realize the maximum return on their strategic investments," company president Paul Sankovich, who oversees the Smartronix cloud solutions business, said in a statement.

Daly said the decision to join Smartronix ensures "a great career trajectory" for C22 employees and "access to a broader range of innovative solutions."

Baird served as exclusive financial advisor for C2S while Miles & Stockbridge provided legal counsel. Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP served as legal counsel to Smartronix.
