The newest spawn point for local tech professionals is up and running in the heart of D.C.

On Monday, coding bootcamp and tech education company General Assembly opened its new flagship campus on Seventh Street Northwest in Chinatown.

Over the last several months, the group renovated a historic, 9,500-square-foot building originally constructed in the late 1800s as a bank. It was most recently occupied by Mark Ein’s Venturehouse Group.

General Assembly operates in D.C., Virginia and Maryland, providing events and technical skills training, including software engineering, UX design, data science, product management and digital marketing. The new campus has six classrooms, two event spaces, five conference rooms and two staff offices.

The location – one of 20 worldwide for the company – is a busy yet accessible one for General Assembly's variety of students. The building hosts District Chophouse on the ground floor and sits across from Hotel Monaco, down the street from the National Portrait Gallery and walking distance from the nearby Metro station.

The opening of the flagship campus comes as General Assembly celebrates a growth milestone: Over 100,000 people have participated in D.C.-area events, classes and part and full-time courses since it opened in October 2013.

The campus is open to visitors starting Monday and will hold a grand opening party on May 17.
