A cohort of D.C. coworking spaces has banded together in support of federal employees coming back to work this week after the government shutdown.

Alley Powered by Verizon, Industrious, Inclusive Innovation Incubator, 1776, MakeOffices, MindSpace and The Yard are taking turns hosting free lunches for government workers.

The initiative was organized before last Friday, when a deal was announced to reopen the government for three weeks as budget negotiations continue. Now, it's been rebranded as a series of "welcome back" lunches for workers returning from furloughs.

"We know that the last 35 days have not been easy for so many federal workers," the companies said in a joint statement. "What’s more is that we also know that we’re not out of the woods yet as there is still time before many will get their next paycheck."

Attendees just need to show their government ID to a community associate to enjoy a free meal. All the lunches begin at 12 p.m.
