Blackboard is heading over the bridge and across the Potomac to move its headquarters to Reston, Va.

The D.C.-based edtech company is consolidating its two offices in D.C. and Reston with the move, planned to be complete by yearend. About 350 employees will work at the new headquarters.

The company will move its D.C. office, now just south of Dupont Circle, to the Plaza America complex near Reston Town Center, which already hosts half its employees.

"We are excited to bring our Metro D.C. area workforce together into a new global headquarters in the vibrant Northern Virginia tech corridor," CEO and President Bill Ballhaus said in a statement. "The new office space offers a rich and dynamic environment for our employees as well as convenient access to dining and shopping and easy access to major commuter routes, public transportation and Dulles International Airport."

Founded by Michael Chasen in 1997, Blackboard is one of the largest global providers of educational software, like K-12 digital learning platforms and student ID mobile apps.

The move comes four years after striking a deal to remain in D.C. thanks to incentives from the city, through which it received a $293,000 tax credit in its first year at the space. Blackboard told WBJ it did not receive incentives from Virginia.

The edtech firm joins a host of other tech companies that recently increased their footprint in Reston, including IDEMIA, Refraction and 1901 Group.
