Mayor Muriel Bowser and her office expect up to 500,000 people to descend on the District on Saturday for the March for Our Lives rally. And while federal agents and the D.C. police will be in full force and Metro will run every few minutes, routes to and from the rally are still expected to be packed.

That's where Lyft hopes to make it easier.

On Saturday, the San Francisco ride hailing company is offering free rides to the rally, following up on a promise co-founders John Zimmer and Logan Green made in a letter to students at Majory Stoneman Douglas High School earlier in March.

"We believe there is something seriously wrong when the threat of gun violence is so frequent and real throughout our country," the founders wrote in their letter. "And like many, we are inspired by your leadership."

This is amazing.

Lyft has partnered with the March for Our Lives organizers to ensure up to $1.5 million in free rides across 50 cities including the national event in Washington.

To get a free ride code, attendees must RSVP to the march in their city online, and then on Friday, free ride codes will be distributed to those on the attendee list. Starting Saturday morning, other free ride codes will be available on a Lyft blog post for those who couldn't RSVP. Rides will take attendees to the official rally entry point.

The full list of support cities can be found on Lyft's website.
