Despite the myriad of buses, metro stations and bikeshares in the District, sometimes it's just easier to rely on a rideshare service to get you from Point A to Point B.
Today, Lyft announced its 2017 Lyftie Awards, which are given to the top destinations in a number of Lyft markets at the end of each year. The following designations were awarded based on how popular the drop-off location was.
- Most Visited Restaurant: Busboys & Poets
- Most Visited Bar: Nellie's Sports Bar
- Most Visited Event Space: Walter E. Washington Convention Center
- Most Visited University: Georgetown University
In this year's awards, Lyft swapped out the old "Most Visited Transit Spot" category for the university one. Each of the awardees are new to the list this year.
In addition, Lyft also awards two other destinations based on more qualitative metrics. "Only in D.C." is awarded to a spot unique to D.C., and "Trending Destination" is based on the place that saw the largest uptick in rider drop-offs in 2017. The winners for those categories are as follows:
- Only in D.C.: Nationals Park
- Trending Destination: MGM National Harbor
Given the locations, it makes sense why these spots won out over others. Georgetown lacks an accessible metro station, with residents trekking to the Foggy Bottom or Dupont metro stations. WMATA also officially and permanently scaled back its hours of operations in June after the end of its SafeTrack program.
Although technically in Maryland, MGM National Harbor opened in late 2016, almost a year ago to the day, and the casino is projected to bring in a little less than 40 percent of all of Maryland's casino revenue for 2017.
