A lot of time is spent analyzing and reporting on the cities where tech and startups find the most success. Just look at all of the Amazon HQ2 reporting or the most recent Kauffman Global Entrepreneurship Index (which put Washington, D.C. at the top of the list).
But once tech workers decide they want to be in the D.C. metro area, where do they go from there?
Hired, a job search marketplace for tech workers, released a new report today detailing the most attractive companies for tech workers in the country, broken down by metro area. Hired surveyed 2,349 tech workers and asked them to rate their level of interest in companies that had been hiring tech talent and include additional companies they found attractive. The list includes companies that had the highest "brand positivity."
Here are the top companies for tech workers in the D.C. metro area:

- CustomInk
- Lockheed Martin
- Applied Predictive Technologies
- Booz Allen Hamilton
- Upside
- Appian
- Social Tables
- Optoro
- EVERFI
"CustomInk’s recent acquisitions and rumors of an IPO may explain why the online custom apparel company comes in as the second most popular D.C. brand," the report states. "Traditional financial services and consulting companies, like Capital One and Booz Allen Hamilton, also rank toward the top of the list."
The report also indicates that the majority of tech workers in the Washington, D.C. area prefer to work remotely, joining the ranks of New York City, Austin, Boston, Chicago and Toronto. Candidates also look at compensation, opportunities to learn, company culture, commute and the team as the most important job hunt factors.
