With WMATA and the SafeTrack program scaling back Metro hours, it's no surprise that more people are coming to rely on ridesharing apps like Uber or Lyft to get around D.C.
Today, Lyft released its most popular drop-off locations from 2016—
- Most Visited Restaurant: Founding Farmers
- Most Visited Bar: Don Tito
- Most Visited Transit Spot: Union Station
- Most Visited Event Space: The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
Lyft announced the most popular drop-offs through their annual Lyftie Awards. The awards included two categories, "Only in D.C.," which went to a spot that was unique to D.C. and a "Trending Destination," which saw an uptick in rider drop-offs in 2016. The winners of those categories are as follows—
- Only In D.C.: Union Market
- Trending Destination: National Museum of African American History and Culture
And, turns out, D.C. really loves ridesharing to their next travel destination. Not only was Union Station the most visited transit spot in D.C., but it was also the most visited transit spot in the entire country.
But with WMATA announcing new hours that cut back late night service to 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and 11:30 p.m. the rest of the week, even after Safetrack is set to end, it's no surprise that taking a Lyft to Union Station or the Kennedy Center has become so popular. Uber has a formal partnership with WMATA to allow drivers to pick up and drop off people at taxi stands and kiss & ride spots, and both Uber and Lyft partnered to get people to the polls on Election Day by offering special discounts and reminders. It makes you think how we'll see these listings change in the next year...
