Harry Weller Has Died

New Enterprise Associates general partner Harry Weller died Saturday evening according to an announcement from NEA. Weller, one of the most active investors and advisors in the D.C. area, was not known to be ill.

Weller joined NEA in 2002, and headed up NEA’s East Coast practice, along with co-founding the company's organization in China. He led the company to make a series of major investments, with the firm playing at least a small part in almost every investment of note in a D.C. area tech startup. He was also the only D.C. venture capitalist to make Forbes Magazine's 2016 Midas List. That was in March and at the time the magazine reported Weller's age to be 46. His successes included investing in Cvent, recently acquired by Vista Equity.

We are deeply saddened to share that our partner and great friend Harry Weller passed away in his sleep on Saturday, Nov. 19.

A renowned technology investor, champion of innovation and true partner to entrepreneurs, many knew Harry to be bold, brilliant and passionate. To those who knew him best, he was equally remarkable for his kind heart and generous spirit. Harry was a deeply devoted father, husband and friend.

We are very grateful to the many friends and colleagues who have reached out to express condolences and offer support. During a time of immeasurable grief, there is comfort in knowing how much he was loved, and that his tremendous impact will be felt for many, many years to come. His is a legacy to which we can all aspire.
