DC Tech Veteran Joe Corbett is now Tech.Co CTO

Joe Corbett is adding Tech.co chief technology officer to the diverse ways he is connected to the DC Tech scene. The new position will be on top of his CEO role at Random Nerds, his blog that he relaunched as a long-form media outlet last year.

"I'll still be working on Random Nerds, but I'm able to step away and do less with Bryce [Rudow, RN Editor-in-Chief] taking on new duties."

Corbett first moved to D.C. to work for his brother Peter at the recently acquired iStrategyLabs, then took on an executive position at nclud. and eventually Random Nerds. With ISL being acquired by a New York-based company, Joe Corbett did not want to make that kind of move to a new city again.

“My wife and I have done enough moving around to serve my career,” Corbett said

As for his new position, Corbett said he sees it partly as an opportunity to try new ideas but also as a way to connect more with the DC Tech community. After being too busy to do much with the community in the last couple of years, he's excited to be more involved with it. As CTO, he plans to apply what he's learned in D.C. to add energy to the brand.

"Tech.co knows I'm an entrepreneur and they want me to express myself as an entrepreneur," Corbett told DC Inno. "I was initially hesitant about jumping into that specific position because I was concerned some people think the CTO himself has to be an engineer, and I'm definitely not an engineer. My philosophy is that CTO's should leverage tech to make the job more efficient and enjoyable. I happen to be pretty good at that."
