In a surprise that shook Washington, D.C. and much of the nation last night, the 2016 election results have determined Donald Trump will become the 45th President of the United States.

Virtually every poll leading up to Election Day predicted a Hillary Clinton win and a high probability of a Democratically controlled Senate. That didn't happen, and the D.C.'s leaders in innovation are gearing up for four years of President Trump and preparing for what his administration will bring here.

Here's what some of the D.C.'s innovation leaders are saying about last night's election results:

Steve Case, co-founder of AOL and chairman and CEO of Revolution:

I am surprised & disappointed. But now that the people have spoken, we should accept the result & work together to move the country forward.

Donna Harris, co-founder and co-CEO of 1776

From my 6 year old son: “I can’t believe so many people voted for such a mean man…I sure hope he doesn’t lead us into trouble” Me too!

G. Nagesh Rao, Chief Technologist at U.S. Small Business Administration

Dear America, My BDay wish today is that we take a moment to self-reflect and ask how we can move forward & rise up together... Love =n

2/I am absolutely shocked by the results of the election but not surprised. I called Trump winning the Republican nomination but not this. — Dan Berger (@danberger) November 9, 2016

3/On the media: The fact that every single political expert, pundit, and pollster was unable to predict this is mind boggling. — Dan Berger (@danberger) November 9, 2016

4/And what's even more wild is that Trump essentially declared war on every one of these media personalities and outlets. — Dan Berger (@danberger) November 9, 2016

5/On the candidates: This wasn't about HRC or Trump. It was status quo vs. anti-establishment. — Dan Berger (@danberger) November 9, 2016

6/This is proven by the fact that Trump won despite all of the terrible things he has done to employees/women + said about fellow Americans. — Dan Berger (@danberger) November 9, 2016

7/None of these things matter when you're voting to make a statement. — Dan Berger (@danberger) November 9, 2016

8/On two Americas: All of society's pop stars, elites, and influencers were not enough to sway the electorate. — Dan Berger (@danberger) November 9, 2016

9/We live in a country that's divided into liberal urban dwellers and everyone else. That's sad and perhaps irreconcilable. — Dan Berger (@danberger) November 9, 2016
