The 5 Biggest DC Tech Hires in June

Canvas

  • Local data collection and analytics startup Canvas announced three new executives in June: Chief Marketing Officer James Robins, Chief Product Officer Joshua Konowe (right) and Vice President of Professional Services Jonathan Salkoff. Robins has held leadership positions at companies including Orange, Automobile Association, Myriad Group and NEC. Konowe is a serial entrepreneur and has previously worked with companies including Folr, ArmorText and BrandClick. Salkoff is a senior manager with experience in enterprise mobility corporate strategy consulting, having previously worked for Verisign and AOL. Most recently Salkoff led the Mobility Strategy Consulting Practice for AT&T.
WeWork
  • WeWork has a new lead in D.C., just in time for the launch of its fifth location in the area.  Kley Sippel is taking the job seriously too; he's living in the WeLive in Crystal City so he'll be fully ingrained in WeWork culture 24 hours a day. Sippel has worked with WeWork in New York since early 2014.
Revolution
  • Revolution has hired Anna Kohanski Mason as the new director of investment for the Rise of the Rest program, Steve Case's program to find entrepreneurs outside of Silicon Valley for investment. Mason is currently the D.C. co-director of The Vinetta Project, which helps support and connect early stage female tech startup founders. Before moving to D.C., she founded social fitness app BurnThis, eventually selling it to BeachBody.
Heartful.ly
  • Philanthropic wedding registry startup Heartful.ly brought on a new CTO/co-founder in June. Alex Leach is a long-time software engineer with time at Disney Interactive and Groupon. Most recently, Leach was a senior software consultant with marketing and advertising giant, Catalina Marketing.

RedPeg Marketing

  • RedPeg Marketing, the Alexandria-based agency has named John Piester its new president. Piester spent the past 14 years at ignition in Atlanta. According to a release, "Piester was instrumental in the creation and execution of programs for blue-chip brands like Harley-Davidson, Kia Motors America, BP, ESPN, eBay, John Deere, AT&T, Coca-Cola and Delta Air Lines." Prior to joining ignition he worked for two years with the Salt Lake 2002 Winter Olympic Games Organizing Committee and spent four years with Momentum Worldwide, where he helped build the Coca-Cola Racing Family program.
