Meet the 2021 Inno on Fire

These are the 50 innovators who made our hot list for this year — and why

Greater Washington's startup scene is not hurting for innovation.

And even in the last year — one of the most devastating and stressful ever for business enterprises, young and old — innovation is what kept the community not just afloat but in growth mode for many players.

Today, we recognize many of those players — 50 of them, to be exact. These are the ventures, founders, funders and innovators who still managed to raise money, swell their staffs, pivot their products and produce revenue growth, and in many cases with greater equity and access in mind for those who've long lacked it, despite the odds. These are the Inno on Fire contenders for 2021 for the Washington Business Journal and DC Inno.

In July, we first revealed our list to you.

Today, we explain why they made it on there at all.

The honorees are presented in 10 categories: lifestyle; consumer tech; B2B; med-tech; health care; biotech and life sciences; cybersecurity, software and IT; community leaders; venture firms and our own DC Inno picks. As you go through each of the categories below, look for the top “blazers” — the trailblazers leading the charge and chosen by a panel of judges from the community. For a refresher, here’s the 2020 list and blazer roster. And click here for details for our Aug. 19 virtual celebration of the honorees.

Now, scroll through this gallery below and update your list of people in Greater Washington you need to meet.
