New talent platform launches to strengthen Hampton Roads ecosystem

This is part of our Inno on the Road Series, where we explore and showcase a neighboring ecosystem. Inno on the Road: Hampton Roads, which will feature a couple new stories a month and an event later this year, is presented by BDO.

Three years in development, ElevateU, an onboarding platform for employers and job seekers, is in soft launch.

Bevon Moore, CEO and product manager, describes the Virginia Beach startup as a “combination of LinkedIn and Indeed that creates a pipeline for talent acquisition.”

Connecting businesses with universities, colleges, adult learning center and high schools, ElevateU seeks to reduce recruitment time and simplify the vetting process for job candidates at a time when many people are looking for work.

“We’ve built technologies to cut through all the noise to give candidates the best advantage.”

“We’ve created an onboarding and tracking system for higher ed,” said Moore, the former founder of Hashtiv, which he said he dissolved. “Our platform showcases top employers in our region, giving them an early competitive advantage in today's talent market. Our data analytics will provide local government with industry insight and talent tracking data”

ElevateU has raised $250,000 in capital, he said.

Partners include the City of Virginia Beach, Hampton Roads Alliance, National Labor Exchange, Hampton Roads Workforce Council, LLC, Ashoka, PointOne and Huntington Ingalls Industries, Moore said.

ElevateU offers an applicant tracking system “from review to potential hire,” and it allows schools to verify an applicant’s credentials, Moore said.

“We want to build the ecosystem here. We have a lot of great colleges, universities and businesses here,” Moore said. “We’ve built technologies to cut through all the noise to give candidates the best advantage.”

ElevateU also has an alert system that lets candidates know that a potential employer is looking to reach out, Moore said.

The platform uses AI to identify industry skills, culture fit and career fit, he said.

“We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel,” he said.

Moore said he was motivated to launch Elevate U “knowing that there’s so many people out there who don’t have the necessary tools and businesses that don’t have the tools.”

High education, he said, “has suffered a massive hit due to Covid-19. How do we give new talent an advantage?”

The platform lists more than 4.5 million jobs, Moore said.
