Fresh Faces: The Top DC Tech Hires and Departures in October

Winter is coming, and the D.C. tech community is restocking desks and shuffling c-suites before the leaves fall. We rounded up some of the biggest names that switched companies, stepped down or got promoted and ordered new business cards in October.

Tysons-based analytical software firm MicroStrategy hired former EverFi CFO Lisa Mayr as its new chief financier. She will replace Phong Le, who currently is both CFO and COO while also overseeing sales and services. Before EverFi, Mayr worked at edtech company Blackboard and daily deals startup LivingSocial. Edtech giant 2U brought on Jennifer Ogden-Reese as its new chief marketing officer. Ogden-Reese joins 2U from SeatGeek, where she served as CMO for three years. Prior to SeatGeek, she was the first head of marketing for e-commerce company Gwynnie Bee and spent over a decade at Time. More here.

2U also brought on former NeuStar Chief Financial Officer Paul Lalljie as its new CFO. The hire comes two months after it announced the retirement of longtime chief financier Catherine Graham, who will continue as a strategic adviser. More here.

Healthcare analytics firm CareJourney brought on Hellmut Adolphs as its new Chief Technology Officer. As CTO, he will oversee software engineering, product development, data science and infrastructure. Adolphs previously held tech leadership roles at Sapient and Sirius XM Radio before co-founding Condaptive, which was acquired in 2011 by Millennial Media. He also co-founded and served as CTO at Intellei, an AI-powered conversation automation platform. More here.

D.C.-based consulting startup CUCollaborate hired Chris Tissue as chief operating officer to manage its budget and help bring on more talent. Tissue previously worked in business consulting at Grant Thornton, Deloitte and Callahan & Associates. CUCollaborate, whose marketing director Lucas McCanna was a 50 on Fire winner this year, works with credit unions to increase memberships. More here.

Northern Virginia Technology Council President and CEO Bobbie Kilberg announced her plans to retire in June 2020, after 22 years leading the trade association. Kilberg worked in the Nixon, Ford and Bush Sr. administrations and was also appointed by President George W. Bush to the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. During her tenure at NVTC, the council has grown to represent about 1,000 Northern Virginia technology companies that encompass more than 350,000 employees. More here.

McLean tech consulting firm Dovel Technologies named Damon Griggs as its new CEO, effective Nov. 1. Griggs, previously the company's president and COO, will succeed Paul Leslie as he transitions to the role of executive chairman. Since Griggs’ arrival in 2016, Dovel has more than doubled in size and started preparing for its next phase of growth, including the recent acquisition of Ace Info Solutions. More here.

Arlington-based Higher Logic, a maker of cloud-based customer engagement platforms, announced the appointment of Daniel Reese as chief customer officer and Kevin Alansky as chief marketing officer. Prior to joining, Alansky served as CMO at Logi Analytics and Reese was SVP of customer success and digital experience at JDA. Honorable mentions

Susan Tynan, founder of D.C.-based custom framing company Framebridge, was selected as the Washington Business Journal's CEO of the Year. She was a speaker at TechCrunch's Disrupt conference and the CNBC Evolve Summit in 2019, while upping the company's funding to more than $80 million from some of the area's best-known VCs. Tynan also led Framebridge's business model expansion from an exclusively online presence to the brick-and-mortar domain. More here.

Three finalists were announced for the Woman of the Year Award from Washington Women in Public Relations. They are: Glen Echo Group founder and CEO Maura Corbett, Ketchum Senior VP of Public Affairs KayAnn Schoeneman and Meals on Wheels Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Susan Waldman. The winner will be announced Nov. 15. More here.
