Fresh Faces: The Biggest DC Tech Hires and Departures in June 2019

Summer has arrived, and the D.C. tech community is restocking desks and shuffling c-suites before August vacations kick off. We rounded up some of the biggest names that switched companies, stepped down or got promoted and ordered new business cards in June.

Alexandria-based Amify, which helps brands optimize their presence on Amazon, named Andy Cipra its new chief marketing officer. Cipra has spent years leading marketing efforts for major brands, including Procter & Gamble, 3M and Dish Network. He will lead Amify’s newly announced second headquarters in Cincinnati.

D.C.-based edtech firm EverFi has named Bobby Moran as its chief revenue officer. Previously, Moran worked at Politico for more than eight years following a stint at the Advisory Board Company. He will lead EverFi's sales and customer success strategy and align it with revenue-related functions.

Edtech nonprofit Byte Back recently expanded beyond its native D.C. metro region and started tech education classes in Baltimore. It hired Chrissie Powell, former leader at Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, as the organization’s Baltimore site director to lead the charge. Powell will work with community partners to recruit and train students and corporate partners to hire Byte Back graduates after they graduate.

GetUpside, a D.C.-based deals app, hired Jen Millard as its chief revenue officer and lead of its new Austin office. Millard's background includes leadership roles at MasterCard and Truaxis. GetUpside plans to fill at least 20 new positions in Austin this year.

Online job marketplace Snag, formerly known as Snagajob, named Mathieu Stevenson as its new chief executive officer. The company, which runs a search platform for hourly jobs, is returning Fabio Rosati to his position as executive board chairman after he left that post to serve as CEO in July 2018. Stevenson joined Snag in January as chief marketing officer, and previously served as chief marketing and strategy officer at Texas-based internet services company Blucora.

D.C.-based CompTIA, one of the technology industry's largest trade associations, named Cinnamon Rogers as its executive VP for public advocacy. Rogers will lead its expanding federal, state and international advocacy efforts. She previously served as senior VP of government affairs at the Telecommunications Industry Association, and also served as a principal advocate for companies including Discovery Communications and Time Warner Inc. CompTIA also announced the promotion of Stefanie Holland to VP of federal and global policy, and Alexi Madon to VP of state government affairs.

Local edtech giant 2U announced that Ebony Lee is joining as its managing director for graduate programs. In the leadership role, Lee will report to COO Mark Chernis and oversee the operation and growth of the graduate program business. She joins 2U from Comcast Cable Communications, where she served as senior VP of strategic development.

ApprioHealth, which makes revenue cycle management software for commercial healthcare companies, appointed Dinesh Pai as its CFO. The company also announced Michael Wilmoth as COO. Pai was most recently VP of finance for Bon Secours Medical Group Virginia. Wilmoth's resume includes leadership roles with Praxis Healthcare Solutions and Advanced Patient Advocacy.

Rubrik, a cloud data management company based in Palo Alto, Calif., announced the appointment of Tom Kennedy as VP of Federal to lead growth and expansion in a largely D.C.-based business segment. He joins Rubrik from Veritas, where he served as VP and general manager for its public sector operations. Earlier in his career, Kennedy spent five years at Symantec leading its sales team focused on the government, education and healthcare verticals.
