The 5 D.C. Offices We Envied the Most in 2018

A company’s office space needs to match its brand, and here at DC Inno, we know that. That’s why throughout the year, we highlight the top offices in the D.C. metro area in our Office Envy series.

As 2018 winds down, we took a moment to comb through this year’s offices to find the coolest of the cool. Here’s our roundup of the top five spaces we visited this year.

Quorum

This summer, just a year after moving to Farragut Square, Quorum moved again as it approaches 70 employees. It’s taken up residence on 19th Street NW in an office five times larger than its previous digs, with a full kitchen with private dining area, three open lounges and 12,000 square feet of workspace.

In a nod to former abodes, Quorum’s conference rooms tell the story of its fast-paced four years: Each of the 12 is named after a street that at some point served as its headquarters.

The Wing

In April, New York City-based women’s social club and coworking space The Wing officially debuted in Georgetown. It brought in the same design team it relies on in New York City, architect Alda Ly and interior designer Chiara de Rege. Open layouts, private meeting and reading nooks and light-filled rooms are the focus of the 10,000-sq.-ft. location.

Within the expansive space is a variety of conference rooms (named after D.C. neighborhoods), call rooms (named after influential female politicians), a wellness and exercise room, a meditation/yoga room, a cafe called The Perch and a lending library curated with all-female authors.

Founded in 2015 by Param Jaggi and Amelia Friedman, Hatch Apps closed a $1.3 million angel round in February, one month after moving into a new, 3,200-sq.-ft. office on 18th Street NW.

Before, the Y Combinator alum company worked out of WeWork, where Hatch grew from four to nine employees. With the new batch of funding and a busy year behind it, the startup hired seven people since the spring to fill the space, including three key executives and four engineers, with plans to hire more in coming months.

FiscalNote, the workflow and data analytics platform, in June opened its new office on Pennsylvania Avenue. The space is 38,400 square feet and was planned to house 130 employees. Equipped with nitro cold brew kegs, a gym, in-suite lockers, a roof deck and a cafe, FiscalNote’s new location is meant to keep its employees comfortable on and off the clock.

The space may need to expand soon though: FiscalNote recently acquired CQ Roll Call for $180 million in August.

It’s been a quick journey for the Virtru team from a small apartment in Adams Morgan to a spacious, clean office in the heart of D.C. It moved into the new space in January, with 50 desks in the office, a generously sized kitchen and lounge space and several meeting rooms (covered entirely with whiteboard paint).

A couple features stick out – besides an actual encrypted email printed along several walls – a “retreat booth” in the center of the office has gazebo-style benches encased in acoustical material that drowns our background noise, even without walls on either side. Nearby are two completely soundproof Framery “pods” shipped in from Scandinavia that are encased in glass, creating an almost spooky quiet inside.
