Our appetite for faster connections is never quenched. That's why many of us are still waiting for the day when new 5G signals open up our bandwidth in more impactful ways -- enabling improved wireless communications and IoT capabilities.
On Friday, an Arlington-based startup raised a new round of funding in hopes of implementing new AI-powered software to replace some of the wireless communications software of earlier years, promising lower power consumption and improved security.
DeepSig, which uses AI and ML to detect wireless signals faster than traditional techniques to help thwart intrusions, reported raising a $5 million Series A round led by Leawood Venture Capital. Other investors included Scout Ventures, Blu Venture Investors, and Lockheed Martin Ventures.
“As wireless companies and governments deploy 5G, DeepSig will continue to lead AI innovation in this sector," Jim Shea, CEO of DeepSig, said in a prepared statement. "The performance advantages that AI & ML enable are enormous, and we are excited to be leading the field in realizing and bringing to market these unique software performance enhancements."
Last year, DeepSig, was involved in a collaboration with Researchers at the UC Berkeley SETI Research Center and Breakthrough Listen, that led to new floods of data from observations at the Allen Telescope Array. And, in 2017, the Virginia Research Investment Committee and Gov. Terry McAuliffe approved a $1.18 million grant for Virginia Tech and DeepSig Inc, to advance DeepSig's research into wireless cyber threats.
