Transportation Dashboard TransitScreen Raises $800,000 Seed Round

Transportation dashboard startup TransitScreen has raised $800,000 in a a new seed round including investments from 1776 among others. The startup, which is based out of 1776 as well, has now raised a total of $1.5 million.

"We already have revenue which differentiates us," TransitScreen co-founder Ryan Croft said in an interview with DC Inno. "It's not a massive Series A yet, but that may happen."

TransitScreen uses digital screens that connect to a software platform that cities can use to help inform people about transportation options and other important information. The screens are used in public buildings, coffee shops, high-rise apartment buildings and out in the street.

"It's unsexy tech, but we're a public good," Croft said. "It's about equity and accessibility."

The new money will go to expanding the company's presence in new cities, especially in Europe, Croft said. The goal by early 2017 is to have 10,000 locations with TransitScreen's tech across 10 countries. The company is especially pushing in cities that are using tech to become more efficient including D.C.

"We're proud to carry the D.C. tech flag forward," Croft said.
