Eye-Tracking Tech Firm RightEye Scoops $2.1M Bridge Round to Expand

In an interview with DC Inno, RightEye president Barbara Barclay said that her advanced sensor technology and software startup had raised a $2.1 million bridge round in preparation for a "large" Series A round. Barclay declined to name the investors involved in the round but said that she is already in the process of pitching investors on the next funding round for the company. The bridge round will be used primarily for marketing purposes and to establish additional, partner retail channels.

"Financing is always good news," Barclay told me over the phone.

RightEye launched its first product, an innovative eye-tracking test kit, in January. These eye tests, which RightEye develops the software and hardware for, can be used by operators to evaluate and diagnosis the presence of concussions in individuals. Additionally, the tests can effectively spot attention deficit disorder (ADD) in children.

Barclay described the company as being in the "early-stages," as they currently sell to less than 50 customers.

Outside of medical testing, DC Inno previously reported that RightEye's system is already being used by the military and at least one Major League Baseball team. In this scenario, the hardware/software eye-tracking combo is used to improve accuracy and visual acuity by "gamify[ing] ... therapy."

The fresh $2.1 million funding round will also be used for hiring, adding to RightEye's roughly 10-person team. Barclay said she wasn't sure exactly how many people would be hired as a result.

In 2013, RightEye attracted a $450,000 seed investment from private investors.
