March FundingFest: These DMV Tech Companies Raised Millions

March is not just for the NCAA’s March Madness; it can also be dedicated to startups searching for big funding dollars. DMV tech companies raised a total of $97.3 million over the last 30 days. Of particular note: Vaxin, a biotechnology company that develops vaccines for serious viruses like avian influenza and AdVAV, raised $50 million from investors to usher its drugs through clinical trials. It is the first round of financing for the company.

Among other local deals to be highlighted, is a $3 million venture debt raise led by USAA for McLean, Va.-based identity authentication startup ID.me. In an interview with DC Inno, CEO Blake Hall told DC Inno that the company is confident they could also raise another $4.5 million from the ongoing Series B/bridge round. The new money comes as ID.me is expecting to close numerous major, nationwide partnership deals in the coming months.
