D.C. startup Surprise Ride, makers of monthly package of activities for kids, is raising $2 million in a new funding round according to a report from The Washington Post. Surprise Ride appeared in 2013 on ABC's Shark Tank when founders and sisters Donna and Rosy Khalife pitched the company, which sends a monthly package featuring alternative activities from video games and television to subscribers every month on a different theme.

The Khalife sisters originally came up with the idea for Surprise Ride when they wanted to give their two nephews the kind of fun and creative learning activities that they had had from their artistic father. Their company, originally funded by Qualcomm's founder with $600,000, moved into its new offices in Dupont Circle a couple of months ago. Since it was founded, Surprise Ride has sold close to $1 million worth of its boxes, more than 30,000 shipped around the country.
