D.C.-born startup Feastly has raised $1.25 million in a round of seed funding according to a report from TechCrunch. Feastly, which offers a platform to bring together chefs with adventurous diners, began as part of D.C.'s startup weekend almost exactly three years ago and now offers its services in D.C., New York, Chicago and its new home base in San Francisco..

According to the report, chefs approved for Feastly's platform have cooked meals for tens of thousands of customer and are making as much as $60,000 a year in one case. With chefs expert in hard-to-find cuisines or creatively dealing with dietary restrictions, its been a great way for the customers to find like-minded food fans.

Feastly co-founder Noah Karesh is also the co-owner of D.C. coffee pop-up Blind Dog Cafe. Locally there are events all over the area, some of which are free and some costing over $200.

The new round of funding is coming from the Westly Group, created by California VC and politician Steve Westly. The money will come in handy for Feastly as it looks to heighten its profile through expansion as well as with a new $1 million insurance policy for chefs in case of accident. As liability is a huge concern in the sharing economy and one of the main arguments used by those seeking to regulate or ban companies like Uber and Airbnb, it's a necessary move if the company wants to be taken seriously.
