It's that time of year again, when DC Inno and the Washington Business Journal spotlight the founders, funders and fast-growing companies powering the Greater Washington economy.

Some of the 15 firms you'll read about here were nominated by readers, while others were selected by the Washington Business Journal editorial team. Either way, all are companies worth knowing.

Take, for example, the Arlington telecommunications startup Cape, which scored $61 million from Silicon Valley powerhouse Andreessen Horowitz and others to scale its mobile cellular service that puts a premium on customer privacy. There's also Lightshift Energy, a clean tech startup that land a $100 million investment in March to expand production of its battery-powered energy storage facilities.

Some of our honorees, like Blink Charging Co. and Clarest Health, are well-established companies that we're recognizing here because they are among the fastest-growing companies in their sectors. Others, like real estate data startup RCKRBX and modular data center developer Flexnode, are pioneering technologies that have the potential to transform their industries.

We're also profiling several "igniters," here local venture capital firms and accelerators providing much-needed funding and technical expertise to underserved entrepreneurs. We hope you enjoy getting to know them as much as we did.
