About the company: TruWeather Solutions Inc., a supplier of weather data analytics and weather risk management products to federal agencies, was founded in 2015 by CEO Don Berchoff and Chief Financial Officer Howard Loonan. Based in Reston, the company specializes in both crewed and uncrewed low-level aviation and ground transportation systems. Part of TruWeather’s business pitch is the belief that relying solely on weather satellites and radar is insufficient to address the intricate weather-related issues affecting low-altitude drone and vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) operations. Recognizing this, TruWeather has designed its flagship product, the V360° platform, to go beyond these capabilities via the integration of weather satellite, radar and sensing solutions. This creates a user-friendly, one-stop shop that can translate vast amounts of data into straightforward decision insights for operators, dispatchers and airspace managers. The startup, which employs 30 full-time staff, has raised a total of $8.7 million in funding and generates annual revenue of $1.4 million.

Why we’re watching: TruWeather Solutions is at the forefront of the industry, driving the evolution of high-quality, low-altitude weather intelligence. In 2024, the company will unveil the second release of its V360° Weather SaaS platform featuring a new user interface, new map selections and new decision tools with alerting and custom thresholds.

Quotable: “TruWeather is working to help reshape the nation’s approach to integrating weather data and services across diverse transportation modes, encompassing air, land and marine. We are collaborating with key entities such as the Federal Aviation Administration and NASA, driving innovations in policy, technology, science and operational practices. Our focus includes the development of weather sensor infrastructure, leveraging technologies from academia and private businesses, and fostering essential public-private partnerships to actualize shared visions between government and industry.” — Don Berchoff, CEO
