Local startup accelerator gener8tor announced on Wednesday the six medical-technology startups in its second gBETA Medtech accelerator, a relatively new program for medtech entrepreneurs funded by Boston Scientific. The accelerator also has support from local medical powerhouses like Mayo Clinic, the University of Minnesota and Medical Alley Association.
gBETA Medtech is a free, seven-week accelerator that works with medical device, healthcare-related software, biotech and diagnostics startups. Unlike its full-fledged, 12-week summer accelerator, gener8tor does not take equity in gBETA businesses, and does not charge for participation.
The program is designed to help startups gain customer traction on their product or idea, and establish metrics that make them competitive applicants for full-time accelerators or seed investment.
While the standard gBETA program typically runs once or twice a year, gBETA Medtech, funded by Boston Scientific, is offered three times a year for early-stage healthcare companies. The accelerator is currently accepting applications for the third cohort of 2018.
Gener8tor announced the creation of gBETA Medtech this spring. The accelerator is one of two industry-specific programs that gener8tor launched earlier this year. In addition to gBETA Medtech, gener8tor also has a music accelerator in Milwaukee.
As a “concierge startup accelerator,” gener8tor usually accepts businesses from a variety of different industries and finds mentors and resources that correspond to each startup’s individual needs. Startups participating in gBETA Medtech work closely with physicians, researchers, investors and successful entrepreneurs in their field to develop growth strategies, gain customer traction and pitch investors.
