Minne Inno's Favorite Features From Our First Year

Minneapolis Skyline with Car Light Trails
35W in Minneapolis, Minnesota as the sun is setting. Long Exposure to show the light trails from the traffic below. The buildings of the skyline lights begin to glow as the night approaches.

The following is an excerpt from The Beat, Minne Inno’s daily newsletter covering tech, startups and innovation in Minnesota. Sign up for The Beat to have the top headlines delivered to your inbox each weekday afternoon.

Earlier this month, Minne Inno celebrated a small but mighty milestone: We turned one year old! For those of you who are new around here, we cover Minnesota innovation, with a special focus on technology and startups.

One year is equivalent to about one second in the lifetime of a publication, but nevertheless we've managed to tackle some pretty interesting stories in the short time that we've been around.

Here are four of our favorite feature pieces from year one:

  • What effects do startups have on the neighborhoods that they operate in? We took a look at how the presence of new tech companies have changed Northeast Minneapolis.

Made at Mayo: How Lifting a Startup Ban Changed Rochester

  • In this piece, we take a deep dive into the burgeoning startup scene in Rochester, where five years ago Mayo Clinic made a major move that impacted the entire city.

Minnesota's Boomerangs

  • In this ongoing series, we speak with Minnesota natives who left for the coasts then came back. One of the highlights from this series is our interview with Gregory Binsfeld, who held a series of tech jobs around the world before returning to the Twin Cities. Last year, Binsfeld became the chapter director of Startup Grind St. Paul.

Tilly the Therapy Chicken Provides Weekly De-Stressing Sessions for Students

  • Innovative ideas don't always have to be big, lofty or serious. The University of Minnesota's therapy chicken Attila the Hen is a perfect example of something small (and even silly) that can make a difference.

P.S. This is your semi-regular reminder that we're always looking for good story ideas from the community. If there's a particular topic, industry or startup that you think we should write about, don't hesitate to reach out! Our emails are listed at the bottom of every newsletter.
