Rion, a biobusiness startup that's developing regenerative medicine products, is setting up a manufacturing plant for an anti-aging serum in the former IBM campus in Rochester.
The Post-Bulletin has a report on the company's plans for a 10,000-square-foot facility on the Rochester Technology Campus — that's the current name of IBM's former buildings in Rochester, which were partly designed by Modernist architect Eero Saarinen who covered the campus in blue panels (a nod to Minnesota's skies and IBM's "Big Blue" nickname). The expansion is being funded in part by $615,000 in state grants.
Rion got its start in 2017, co-founded by Dr. Andre Terzic and Dr. Atta Behfar of Mayo Clinic and Scott Rosenow. It's focused on developing regenerative therapies that could be used to treat a variety of conditions, from osteoarthritis to foot ulcers.
The latest expansion, though, is in the beauty category: The plant is for Rion Aesthetics, a spinoff that makes an anti-aging skin serum called Plated that sells for $277 per ounce — and sales have exceeded expectations, the report notes.
