Lifespark announced Wednesday it appointed Matt Nyquist as its chief population health officer.

Nyquist will lead the St. Louis Park-based senior care company's design, development and management of global risk products as it prepares for a national market expansion.

Lifespark CEO Joel Theisen said in a statement Nyquist has the right blend of expertise across a range of product types.

"As we begin to scale to new markets beyond Minnesota in 2022, this role is a critical function,” he said. “The high-volume, low-value market is rapidly evolving for seniors and Lifespark is ready to seize that opportunity with our scalable product and proven results that matter to seniors, their families, and health care overall.”

Prior to joining Lifespark, Nyquist served as chief product officer/chief information officer for the Center for Digital Health at UnitedHealth Group Inc.'s Optum health-services unit.

In that role, he implemented a new digital-first care model that combined digital health visits with in-person physician visits.

Nyquist said he joined Lifespark because he was looking for a company with an entrepreneurial spirit that was doing impactful work.

"Finding a place that was smaller but bold in its vision, had a strong culture, and a differentiated product is rare, but Lifespark checked all those boxes," he said. "We are ready for scale and I’m excited to be part of this next phase to help seniors age magnificently not just in Minnesota, but nationally.”

Lifespark raised a $20 million Series B round of fundraising last year, which was the 13th largest venture capital deal of 2021, according to Business Journal research.
