Reema Health, a health technology platform, said Wednesday it raised $8 million in a Seed Round of funding.
The investment into the Minneapolis-based company was led by Los Angeles-based MaC Ventures and Sao Paulo, Brazil-based DNA Capital.
Reema works by pairing technology with community guides to improve health outcomes for populations that have high levels of unmet social needs.
Reema CEO Justin Ley said in a statement the inspiration for the company came from his own personal experience growing up.
“Technology solutions can create more efficient, and more informed outreach but they can’t build authentic relationships that drive real engagement,” said CEO Justin Ley. “... It’s the latest data science combined with empathic, in-person relationships, a powerful combination that builds trust fast.” Ley added the inspiration for Reema came from his own personal experiences growing up.
The company's platform is currently serving health plans in the East coast and Midwest. It plans to expand to more regions later this year.
Reema is one of a handful Twin Cities startups combining technology with human interventions to improve health care outcomes.
Another example is Duos, which was founded by former Rally Health CEO Karl Ulfers. Duos pairs a trained personal assistant for aging with an older adult.
