GeneMatters announced Monday it has been acquired by San Francisco-based Genome Medical Inc.
Both Minneapolis-based GeneMatters and Genome Medical offer tele-health genetic counseling that pairs patients to genetic tests.
Genetic counseling analyzes a patient's genetic makeup to assess whether they are at risk of certain inherited diseases. Genetic counseling can also be helpful for what's known as precision medicine, or determining the best course of treatment based on genetics.
GeneMatters will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Genome Medical Holding Co. and will now focus on expanding its services to community health systems. Meanwhile, Genome Medical will work to expand its clinical capacity.
GeneMatters was founded by Jill Davies and Invenshure, a Minneapolis-based medical incubator.

Genome Medical simultaneously announced it has raised $60 million in a Series C round led by Casdin Capital. New York-based Casdin Capital led GeneMatters' $10.2 million financing round in July 2020.
