The Big Know has been acquired by Encino, Calif.-based health care tech firm Mpulse Mobile Inc., the two firms announced Tuesday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Allison Gage, the president of Minneapolis-based The Big Know, will become mPulse Mobile's chief engagement officer as part of the merger, the companies said.

The Big Know creates streaming health care education videos for clients like UnitedHealth Group Inc. and U.S. Bancorp. With a Netflix-esque design, it makes videos on subjects like navigating health care benefits or coping with anxiety. It has 28 employees.

“When we think about healthcare delivery, member and patient engagement must include education. We must help consumers better understand and learn the skills to activate their personal health journey and give them the confidence and motivation to seek the best possible care," Gage said in a statement.

It's the third acquisition for mPulse and its first in about three years, according to Crunchbase. Mpulse creates conversational AI, like chatbots, for over 100 health care organizations. Its AI has more than 400 million conversations each year.

“Healthcare organizations need to provide meaningful and relevant education to their consumers in a way that is both familiar and impactful. We realize that streaming health education experiences are the best way to meet that need," mPulse Mobile Co-founder and CEO Chris Nicholson said in a statement.

The Big Know was spun out of local digital product studio and consultancy GoKart Labs in 2015. GoKart Labs itself was acquired by West Monroe Partners in 2019 and the brand was sunset.

The Big Know received a 2016 Eurkea! Award from the Business Journal. That same year, it raised $3 million from a group of investors that includes Wayzata-based investors LFE Capital and Capella Education Co. founder Steve Shank.
