St. Paul-based health care software firm Central Logic has acquired Boston-based Acuity Link, the companies announced Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Acuity Link is a startup that helps health systems coordinate their transportation needs. It's like an Uber for hospitals, helping send patients to other hospitals, post-acute centers or their homes, Central Logic CEO Angie Franks said.

Founded in 2005, Central Logic makes analytics and management software for health systems. It was based near Salt Lake City until this summer, when it opened an office in downtown St. Paul's Osborn370 tower. That's now its headquarters, Franks said.

With the Acuity Link acquisition, as well as the November 2020 acquisition of Ensocare, Central Logic has between 100 and 150 employees, Franks said. Its clients include New York's Mount Sinai Health System, Georgia's Emory Healthcare and Arizona's Banner Health.

The Covid-19 pandemic has helped Central Logic stress its relevance to health care systems. When the state of Arizona was building out its "Surge Line," or a system to prevent any single health system from getting overloaded with Covid patients, it relied on Central Logic's platform. That's helped the firm continue to grow through the pandemic, Franks said.

"We are a high-growth company by any standard metric for software-as-a-service companies," she said.

Franks was previously the CEO of shuttered primary care startup RetraceHealth and the chief marketing officer of SportsEngine. She recently joined the board of the Medical Alley Association, a non-profit group that supports Minnesota's health care companies.

Central Logic is a portfolio company of Boulder, Colo.-based private equity firm Rubicon Technology Partners. Rubicon got a majority stake in Central Logic in June in a deal that likely valued the company at over $100 million, according to PE Hub.
