Mobile learning company Scrimmage has been acquired by Canadian software company ACTO, the companies announced Thursday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Minneapolis-based Scrimmage creates mobile learning technology for businesses. It markets an app platform that allows employees to access information they need to know, and they learn it through quizzes and games.
The firm has over 150 clients and is especially popular in the health care industry, serving organizations like the Mayo Clinic, UnitedHealthcare and Bayer. Scrimmage will continue to serve its old clients after the transition, a spokesperson said.
Toronto-based ACTO provides a similar service and already has a focus on the life-sciences vertical. Last month, the company announced that it had closed on an $11.5 million Series A round.
Scrimmage was No. 4,707 on the 2019 Inc. 5,000, which is an annual list of the fastest-growing companies in the United States. It was founded in 2010 and is based out of Capella Tower in downtown Minneapolis.
"By joining forces with ACTO, we’ll be opening the next chapter in our combined growth, and bringing our transformative solutions to an even wider audience, as we expand the ACTO family. I’m thrilled about the value we’ll be bringing our customers, and ultimately in making a positive difference in people’s lives," Scrimmage CEO Derek Lundsten said in a statement.
Lundsten will become a senior strategic advisor for ACTO. With the acquisition, the combined company will have over 100 employees.
