If you're looking for the next big trends in tech, it's hard to ignore the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

From January 8 – 11, more than 4,000 companies and 180,000 attendees will gather in Las Vegas to showcase and test the latest trends in consumer electronics, from autonomous vehicles to 5G.

There will be 17 Minnesota companies at CES this year. These businesses will be showcasing products ranging from high-tech helmets to flying selfie cameras.

Here are seven worth keeping an eye on:

  • AirSelfie: AirSelfie is creating pocket-sized aerial cameras, which users can fly to heights of up to 65 feet and control via their smartphone.
  • NimbeLink: In 2018, Plymouth-based NimbeLink was the eighth fastest growing private company in Minnesota, according to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. The venture-capital-backed IoT startup makes tiny modems to connect cellular networks, allowing equipment and other items to be monitored over the internet.
  • Digi International: Minnetonka-based IoT company Digi International will present several products at CES this year, including Prsonas, an interactive hologram that can act as a virtual sales rep.
  • J&S Innovations: This smart-home startup will showcase its innovative windows, which the company says can detect the presence of carbon monoxide.
  • Kwikbit: Kwikbit is a telecom startup focused on the market for gigabit-speed wireless internet.
  • Polaroid: Don't call it a comeback. Minnetonka-based Polaroid may be one of the oldest camera companies still in existence, but it rarely passes up on an opportunity to showcase new products at CES. This year, Polaroid will show off a variety of products, including 360 cameras and 3D printing devices.
  • Quintessential Design: Plymouth's Quintessential Design will show off its smart motorcycle helmet, called Quin Design Helmets. The helmet provides automatic crash detection, alerts emergency contacts, live location tracking and an SOS beacon.
