A Bloomington-based digital health tech company has raised $8.2 million in its pre-A Series funding round through angel investors.
Founder and CEO Lisa Lavin created Omcare in 2018 to combat the shortage of in-home caregivers, increased healthcare costs, missing medications and to address the healthcare needs of the population over 65 years old.
"We've known for years that people want to stay independent in their homes, and you need a technology program to do that," Lavin said. "If you go to someone's home today, their technology are all separate devices. We combined them to create an easy button for aging people that may have eyesight problems or other health problems that make it difficult to take medication on time and have access to a healthcare provider. It's really about helping people stay independent and live where they want to live."
In 2022, Omcare launched a pilot product the Omcare Home Health Hub — an all-in-one digital hub that provides a patient with connection to caregivers in the home, dispenses medication and provides verification that medication was taken. The patient's medication is delivered to their home and placed in pre-packaged doses of up to 30 days, dispensed at certain times when needed. Omcare's device retails at $1,599 with a $19.99 monthly subscription.
The funding is being used to develop, commercialize and expand the Omcare Home Health Hub, Lavin said. Overall, the company has raised around $12 million. Lavin said 2024 will be an expansion year for the company with new pharmacy partnerships and healthcare provider partnerships.
Following a merger in 2021, Omcare is the new identity of Anser Innovation — a firm that makes a webcam that connects pets with their owners called PetChatz.
