Soona, a Minneapolis- and Denver-based same-day photo startup that makes content for e-commerce companies, announced Monday it closed a $35 million Series B round of funding.

TechCrunch reports the round was led by Boston-based Bain Capital Ventures. Other participants in the round included Minneapolis-based Matchstick Ventures, New York City-based Union Square Ventures, Chicago-based Starting Line Ventures, New York City-based 2048 Ventures and Denver-based Range Ventures.

Soona said it will use the funding to grow its model services, and intends to triple the size of its platform and its engineering team in 2022.

CEO Liz Giorgi didn't disclose the company's valuation to TechCrunch, but said it's moving towards becoming a female-founded unicorn.

"We're going to get there very soon," Giorgi told the site.

Soona's growth accelerated during the pandemic when the company shifted away from physical studios and embraced virtual photo shoots with clients participating in a shoot remotely through their device. A move that sped up the company's customer-experience vision by five years.

"“We embraced the opportunity to say, 'Can we actually accelerate this business to where we want it to be in 2025 or 2026, in 2020?' ” Giorgi told Minne Inno in August. “That is exactly what we did.”

Last summer, a panel of judges named Soona the Startup of the Year in Minne Inno's annual Blazer awards.

Soona has now raised over $50 million, including a $10.2 million Series A round in April 2021, a $3.5 million seed round in 2020 and a $1.2 million seed round in 2019.
