Edina-based tech company Sportsdigita has raised $5 million dollars to fuel a growth spurt that CEO Angelina Lawton says will double the firm's size by the end of the year.

The bulk of the cash came from Peak6, which also led Sportsdigita's $3 million 2017 seed round, though there was also some self-funding, Lawton said. Sportsdigita hopes to grow from its current 52 employees to over 100 by the end of the year. It's looking to open an office in Dallas to support the growth.

Like many tech firms, Sportsdigita has struggled to recruit talent in the Twin Cities.

"That's the hardest part of my job," Lawton said of hiring. Much of the employment growth will be in sales and marketing.

Sportsdigita's marquee product is Digideck, a cloud-based presentation tool that works like a flashier PowerPoint. Digideck includes multimedia elements like virtual tours of stadiums for prospective sponsors and season ticket holders. While the product was originally designed for sports teams, Sportsdigita's corporate clients, like Cargill Inc. and Humana Inc., now outnumber sports clients like the Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves, Lawton said.

"Sportsdigita has already made a major impact during the pandemic by powering solutions for remote selling and digital interactions. They have demonstrated the ability to pivot and capitalize on challenges and are continuing to diversify their offerings by extending into new verticals outside of sports," Peak6 co-founder Jenny Just said in a statement.

Earlier this year, Lawton said she expected Sportsdigita's sales to top $10 million in 2021.
