Oak City Labs, a Cary-based app developer, is closing up shop.

Carol Vercellino, CEO and co-founder of the company, posted the news Thursday – that as of July 31, Oak City Labs would be closing.

“I could write pages of things I did wrong over the last 10 years but instead will focus on the single thing we did right,” she wrote on LinkedIn. “We built a great team, one that I’m incredibly proud of and will miss seeing every day.”

Vercellino told firms looking for javascript, python and iOS developers to reach out.

Vercellino didn’t immediately respond to a request to comment further on the situation.

Oak City Labs is a software development company that builds custom mobile apps.

Vercellino, who had engineering leadership roles at entrepreneurial companies in the Triangle such as iContact, Teradata and StepLeader, founded the company in 2014. According to the company's website, it was “founded on the idea that entrepreneurs should have the support to solve some of the greatest challenges facing their community.”

Oak City Labs’ projects include iOS apps for companies such as VitalFlo, ServusConnect and THX Rx.

According to LinkedIn, it has between two and 10 employees.

The company is not alone in shutting its doors amid a challenging market. In recent months, a pair of local digital advertising companies, Direct Marketing Group and Method Savvy, have shuttered.
